JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol said in a X post Thursday afternoon that the suspect's vehicle has been located.
A 63-year-old Georgia woman died in a hit-and-run crash on Jacksonville's Trout River Bridge early Thursday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
In a crash report released by FHP on the incident, troopers say an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on Interstate 95, north of Edgewood Avenue West on the bridge at 12:30 a.m.
The vehicle was approaching the woman who had exited her vehicle parked on the right shoulder, the report states.
FHP says the vehicle then struck the woman, as the driver fled the scene, continuing northbound on the interstate.
"The pedestrian (woman) died from their injuries they sustained on-scene," the report states. "The current whereabouts of the suspect's vehicle is unknown and law enforcement is actively seeking individuals with information to locate the vehicle and driver."
Investigators believe the suspect's vehicle is a 2016-2019 Ford Explorer, according to the report; FHP says it is searching for it and that it is "possibly black or dark colored" with a damaged outside passenger side view mirror.
Furthermore, the report mentions that the Ford Explorer's reflective mirror "will be missing and the forward facing plastic mirror cover will be missing." Damage should be present to the right front bumper area as well, troopers say.
