FHP: 20-year-old dead after rear-ending semi-truck on SR-200 in Nassau County

Florida Highway Patrol says the 20-year-old passed witnesses of the crash "at a high rate of speed," prior to it happening Tuesday night.

NASSAU COUNTY, FLORIDA, Fla. — A 20-year-old man from Colorado died Tuesday night after rear-ending a semi-truck on State Road 200 in Nassau County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP's crash report says at 11:37 p.m., the 20-year-old who was driving a sedan, and a 41-year-old man who was driving the semi-truck, were both traveling eastbound on SR-200, east of Chester Road in the center lane.

Troopers say after the sedan hit the back of the semi-truck, both vehicles came to final rest in the center lane, facing east.

The 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP; the man who was driving the semi-truck did not suffer any injuries.

Several witnesses said the 20-year-old "passed them at a high rate of speed, prior to the crash," the report states.
