PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — Putnam County will receive a federal grant worth nearly $1.5 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency [FEMA] in order to fund the county's new drainage system, according to a news release from FEMA.
FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Program approved the $1,467,134 grant to help design, engineer, permit and put out a bid for the project, which is designed to protect against a 100-year rain event.
The project includes a 4-foot by 8-foot box culvert that will replace an existing ditch collection system. It also includes concrete pipes that would feed stormwater into a proposed new pond.
“Hurricane Irma wreaked devastation across the state of Florida, and it is important that the federal government works with state and local leaders to ensure that our communities are well-prepared for future storms,” Florida Senator Marco Rubio said. “I welcome these funds to Putnam County.”
