JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — FBI Jacksonville is partnering with the Duval County Public Schools' Parent Academy to educate parents on protecting their children from online predators.
The "Be Smart with Your Kids' Smartphone – Parent Edition" event will give an overview of popular social media apps and tactics used by offenders to target children and teens online.
The event will be held at Mandarin High School Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is free and open to the public. However, organizers say the presentation's contents may not be appropriate for children and parental discretion is advised.
Registration is recommended as seating is limited.
It will be led by Special Agents from FBI Jacksonville who investigate crimes against children along with officers from the Duval Schools' Police Department.
The Duval County Public Schools' Parent Academy is a free family resource aimed at promoting parental involvement and supporting their need for personal and individual growth, according to the district website.
More than 3,000 parents and educators have participated in "Be Smart" events across Northeast Florida since 2018.
