Family remembering Georgia boaters one year after they went missing

The family of three young men who never returned from a fishing trip are reflecting on the last year.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Monday marked one year since three men were last seen going aboard the Carol Ann in Brunswick for a fishing trip. Dalton Conway, Caleb Wilkinson and Tyler Barlow were supposed to return four days later, but they never did.

Stevie Conway is Dalton's sister and Caleb's fiancé. She was around four months pregnant with Caleb's son when he left for the trip.

"In lots of different ways he reminds of us of all three of them, Dalton, Caleb, and Tyler," Stevie said.

Levi Bryce was born in March. He will never get to meet his father or his uncle.

“Being pregnant and the thoughts of my child not having his father there…just all the emotions that come with it," Stevie said.

Stevie will always remember Caleb's laugh. She said he was amazing father to her daughter and she knew he would have loved his son. She said also losing her brother Dalton was like losing her own child. "You watched them from mommy’s belly to growing up as an adult…so losing him is kind of like losing your own kid."

Tyler's parents also had a difficult year. Tyler's mom, Kim Cardounel, and dad, Chris Barlow, said there were a lot of ups and downs.

"The shock of them not coming home, and then you’ve got the search and rescue efforts and just the hope and anticipation that they were coming home," Cardounel said.

Tyler was the oldest sibling. His family described as the fun and loving child. He loved the outdoors and he would do anything for the people around him.

"Just his personality…just full of life. Truly just staying true to himself no matter what," Cardounel said.

Both families do what they can to honor the boys' memories. Stevie got a tattoo and Cardounel wears bracelets with Tyler's name. They also lean on each other and lean on the community for support. They said they could not have made it through this year without the community rallying around them.

"The love that each of us have for Tyler, and for the other boys as well. We love Dalton and Caleb, their families. And that love was just poured back out on us from the community," Cardounel said.

While Stevie is now left raising Levi without Caleb, she knows his memory will live on with their son.

“Even though he didn’t get to meet him…he loved this baby more than anything," Stevie said.
