JACKSONVILLE, Florida -- Roosevelt Square has undergone many changes over the past several decades but the biggest one is yet to come. According to developers, a condo, new stores, restaurants and a name-change are in the works.
“Ortega Park, Coming Soon” signs can be found around the center, which feature renderings of a condo, a shopping plaza called “Ortega Alley” and new restaurants. The apartment complex is slated to go up at the old Belk store, although developers did not say when construction would begin.
Ulta Beauty is the latest business that’s slated to open at the square, next to Stein Mart. The beauty store is 12,000 square feet and current plans show an add-on for additional shopping center at the back of the store.
The old Roosevelt Mall, built in the early 1960’s, underwent demolition in the late 1990’s to become an open-concept shopping center. Property developer, Dewberry Corporation, has made plans to change the façade of existing businesses as well as expand the current complex.
