Event to honor Jordan Davis' life and legacy

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The holidays are a particularly difficult time for one Jacksonville family as the five year anniversary of the death of Jordan Davis is approaching.

On November 23rd of 2012, Davis, at age 17 was shot and killed at a southside gas station. His killer Michael Dunn is now serving a life sentence.

Monday, Davis' father, Ron and former Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown sat down with Good Morning Jacksonville anchor, Keitha Nelson.

"I want to remind people during this holiday period that when you talk to your loved one it may be the last time you say a word to them," Ron Davis said. "So take care of the things you say to your loved ones and enjoy their presence during this holiday period. I don't have the opportunity to have my loved one with me this Thanksgiving."

Former Mayor Alvin Brown, who created “Jordan Davis Day” back in 2012, will serve as the keynote speaker at an event being held to honor Jordan's life and legacy.

It will be held November 24th from 7 to 8:30 Friday evening at Deerwood Bistro on Southside Boulevard-- that's near the gas station where Jordan was shot and killed.
