JACKSONVILLE, Fla — A shooting and crash have left one man dead and police searching for answers on Jacksonville's Southside. Police say someone fired shots into a red car around 1 a.m. Monday on Southside Boulevard near JTB. Officers on the scene told First Coast News that at least eight people heard the gunshots and called police. No suspect information was immediately available.
This is at least the fifth time shots have been fired into a moving vehicle on the First Coast over the past two months. In mid-August, two men were shot in a car driving on Southside Boulevard north of Baymeadows Road. That same month, a driver was shot on I-95 near Zoo Parkway.
Last week, shots were fired into a car on southbound Interstate 95 in St. Johns County. Over the weekend, at least seven shots were fired into a car on Interstate 295 near the St. Johns Town Center.
First Coast News asked police if Monday's shooting is connected to any of these other shootings. One officer told us it's too early in the investigation to know for sure.
