BUNNELL, Fla. — Donald "Donnie" Brock, who became chief of police at the Bunnell Police Department in 1974 at 19 years old, died Monday.

Brock was the youngest police chief in the United States when he was appointed. The story was reported by the Associated Press and featured in the November 1975 issue of People Magazine.

He later became a deputy with the Flagler County Sheriff's Office and after that, worked at the Ormond Police Department.

He retired in 2012, but after just one year, decided to return to law enforcement. He returned to the Flagler County Sheriff's Department as a judicial offer in 2013 and worked there until 2018.

In total, Brock had worked in law enforcement for 45 years.

“Donnie was a giant of a man both in spirit and stature. A faithful servant to the community, family and his faith. As a pillar in the law enforcement community he will be deeply missed," Bunnell Police Department Chief Anthony Cuthbert said.
