JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The warmer weather is a sign that Spring is on its way, but it's also an annual sign of construction season.
Starting Monday, Edgewood Avenue will be closed at Roosevelt Boulevard for a railroad crossing rehabilitation project and it will be closed for 10 days.
Trains already cause delays through Murray Hill, but very soon repairs for the tracks will create a whole new delay.
Crossing the railroad tracks at Edgewood Avenue takes a matter of seconds right now, but come March 18 it will be considerably longer than that.
"Unfortunately it's going to be a bit of a detour but you do have a couple options based on where you are and where you want to go," said First Coast News traffic anchor Katie Jeffries. "You could probably go north on 17 and then turn on McDuff then use Post to circle back towards those businesses, or you could go south along 17, turn at Plymouth, go north on Cassat, that leads you to post as well and towards the businesses."
The planned railroad repairs will close Edgewood at Roosevelt for 10 days, but other construction along Edgewood will create intermittent road closures for up to 8 weeks. More information about project details can be found here.
"With detours and resurfacing of the roads and everything it's a lot of distractions which adds hours to your route at night and during the day," said delivery driver Frank Houston.
But what about businesses on Edgewood Avenue?
"It's going to have an impact with all of us," said Mack Cooper, the general manager of The Stout Snug, which is one of a dozen businesses just feet from the closure on Edgewood. Cooper said FDOT has actually worked with local businesses to try and minimize disruption.
"They pushed everything back to the 18th because we do have a big weekend with St. Patrick's Day," said Cooper, "so that seems to fit really well, they've worked real well and we're communicating with them and a lot of other business owners as well"
Edgewood Avenue will close at the railroad tracks near Roosevelt Boulevard starting at 6am on Monday March 18th and is scheduled to remain closed until at least 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28.
