Threatening 911 call temporarily shuts down Clay County government buildings

After receiving the call, the courthouse and surrounding government buildings were temporarily monitored by law enforcement.

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — The Clay County administrative building, jail and courthouse in Green Cove Springs were temporarily closed Tuesday morning to non employees after receiving a threatening 911 call.

Sheriff Michelle Cook said the call came in around 7:30 a.m. from a man who said he had explosives and weapons and was concerned about his son in prison. Cook said the man did not provide any information about what inmate he was referring to, and the phone number he used had been canceled some time ago.

After receiving the call, the courthouse and surrounding government buildings were temporarily closed to the public, and multiple deputies were deployed to help secure and monitor the area.

No threat was found, but the buildings remained closed to the public until 11:45 a.m. "out of an abundance of caution."

Felony court cases missed Tuesday morning will be moved to Thursday morning, Cook said.

While there wasn't an easy way to track where the call was placed, the sheriff said they're not done looking for who called in the threat.

"Although we have not tracked down the caller yet, we will not stop our investigation," Cook concluded.
