A newly released autopsy report revealed that a 25-year-old Keystone Heights woman, who was found dead inside her home last year, suffocated to death.
Jordan Cooper, who had the mental capacity of a 13-year-old, was reported missing around Thanksgiving last year. A few weeks later, she was found dead in the attic of her home, heavily concealed under layers of insulation, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office (CCSO).
DNA evidence collected from a band-aid that was left at the scene, as well as evidence gathered from a sexual assault kit, led to the arrest of Joe Arthur Turner, 27, a neighbor who lived down the street from Cooper. He was charged with her murder and sexual battery.
On Tuesday, the Medical Examiner's Office released her autopsy report. It indicated that Cooper not only died from asphyxia, or suffocation, but she also struggled prior to her death.
Cooper reportedly had bruises on her neck, face, chest and legs, as well as cuts on her arms. She also bit her tongue enough for it to bruise, according to the report.
Turner is awaiting a pre-trial hearing in Clay County and is currently being held on no bond.
