Stories of Service: CSX holds drone training for Wounded Warrior Project

After serving our country, these Warriors are given the opportunity to launch a new career with new technology.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — They served our country and now they're working to find what's next for them in life.

In this week's Stories of Service, we look at a drone pilot training program through CSX that's opening doors for veterans with the Wounded Warrior Project to begin a new career.

This is far more than a weekend hobby. CSX is putting the controls in the hands of the Warriors.

"Everybody's willing to want to help us, to show us the ropes, to explain this to us," said Navy veteran Rich Possert.

Possert spent 23 years in the Navy and retired as a chief petty officer in 2017. He's part of a group of Warriors who are soaring to new heights with the training they receive.

"Once we get to each of these stations we've learned a little about what CSX uses each of the type of drones for, it's really opened my eyes to how much there is out there related to done operations," said Possert, "I never knew there was so much to be involved with."

CSX uses drones for a variety of reasons including railyard inspections. For veterans like Possert, who spent most of their adult life in the military, training like this opens the doors to opportunities that are possible for careers after military life.

"Coming to something like this where it's a partnership between CSX and Wounded Warrior Project, you're almost seeing all of the wheels turn as how they're working to get folks in the right positions by opening doors, this is just one door that's going to be open for all of our warriors," said Possert.
