JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — With both Father’s Day and Juneteenth happening this weekend, many people are traveling for the holidays and on Sunday, over 2,000 flights nationwide are delayed, that according to a flight tracking service.
Multiple people at the Jacksonville International Airport have experienced delays, but some say they made it to their destination without a problem. Everyone though commented on how busy airports have been for this holiday weekend.
“I’m surprised by how many people are in the airport right now," Manoel Lemes, who is flying back to Boston, said.
More than 2.7 million people were screened at airports nationwide on Thursday according to data from the Transportation Security Administration.
Passengers like Jesse Marin noticed the crowds.
“Getting into the airport was pretty easy and getting to my gate, but I would say the flights were pretty packed," Jesse Marin, who flew into Jacksonville for summer swim camp, said.
Not only do passengers have to deal with packed airports, but nationwide delays.
At the Jacksonville International airport, delays were consistent leading into the holiday weekend with 100 being recorded on Thursday, according to a FlightAware.com, a tracking service.
Manoel Lemes, who is flying back to Boston, had a 40 minute delay, but he says it’s been worse on other holiday weekends.
“This is not to bad, I ended up coming to Florida in April vacation, and it was delayed several hours," Lemes said.
As a reminder officials here want to tell passengers to check their flight status before coming to the airport.
