Columbia County deputies investigate suspicious device in bar parking lot near Alachua County line

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office declared the scene where a suspicious device was found on South U.S. 441 as safe.

HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. — Authorities are investigating a suspicious device found in a bar parking lot near the Columbia-Alachua county line.

On Sunday at approximately 8:30 a.m., Columbia County deputies were notified about a suspicious device lying in the parking lot of Billy's Santa Fe Bar on South U.S. 441, according to a social media post.

Deputies then blocked of the area. They found the device was not equipped with a charge, the agency said.

The device was collected by the Alachua County Sheriff's Office bomb squad and the scene was cleared of any other concerns. CCSO said the investigation will continue to determine how the device got there.
