JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coast Guard is searching for a missing fishing vessel roughly 80 miles offshore from Brunswick, Georgia, after it failed to return as scheduled, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
The owner of the 31-foot fishing vessel reported that he hired three people for a job on the vessel, but they didn't return on Wednesday, when it was scheduled to return.
The owner said sometimes crews extend their fishing trips, but said he grew worried since he hasn't heard from the crew in roughly a week.
Coast Guard Sector Charleston and Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville attempted to contact the vessel on radio but all attempts were unsuccessful.
A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater HC-130 aircraft was also deployed to help search for the vessel.
Anyone with information that may assist search efforts are asked to contact Sector Charleston at 843-740-7050.
