CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities recovered a body from Black Creek Monday afternoon after searching for a missing boater who was last seen Sunday evening.
The body was taken to the medical examiner's office for confirmation, but agencies who had been assisting with the search came ashore and began packing up, according to First Coast News crews on the scene.
Steven Doktor, 34, went missing after falling off a boat into Black Creek just west of US-17 bridge, according to a report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The report states that around 6:36 p.m., Doktor was on a boat with three other people when he lost his grip and fell backward into the water. He didn't surface once he fell in.
The FWC led the search with assistance from the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
The command center was located at Knights Marina.
FWC searched overnight, but stopped as conditions became impossible. The search began again at 9 a.m.
FWC reported that it was using sonar technology to look for the missing boater.
Clay County Sheriff’s Office dive team was there to assist.
