PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — Hands were raised and questions were asked, inside of the Palatka Golf Club as Palatka City Commissioner Rufus Borom held his quarterly town hall meeting Tuesday night.
"This is a platform to not have them come into a formal meeting but come into an into an informal setting to give them their voice," said Borom.
People brought up a wide range of issues and concerns from wanting more entertainment for all ages in town to addressing an ongoing problem of public safety, following a shooting on Sunday that injured two people.
With public safety being called into question by at least one person, Borom said he believes Palatka deals with the same things other cities do.
"In terms of pubic safety, I think this community is no different than any other community, rather it’s regionally or nationally or around the world. Certain things you’re not gonna be able to control so when we do those types of things, our officers respond and we make sure community safety is our first priority and that’s how we address things," said Borom.
"Things are not out of control here in our city. As we continue to move forward we will continue to learn from our past and continue to improve our future," he said.
Palatka City Manager Troy Bell spoke about what the city is doing to ensure safety is a top priority.
"When situations do occur, the response is swift and decisive, and that we are sured, that looking at those situations that we create an environment, where those situations don’t happen again," said Bell.
The City of Palatka will be holding a commission meeting on Thursday at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
