JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Mayor Alvin Brown says he's beefing up the city's website to put more information about city government at the fingertips of citizens.
Earlier this week, the City of Jacksonville was recognized by the First Amendment Foundation for having the most transparent city website in Florida. Meanwhile, on Thursday, Brown announced the launch of www.coj.net/transparency.
"Open government is good government," said Mayor Brown in a release. "It's essential that our city government is transparent and citizens have convenient access to information. We appreciate the positive recognition from the First Amendment Foundation. Our new transparency web page is the next step forward in our continuing efforts at openness and accountability."
The new transparency web page centrally locates all city departments and "provides links to resources from the city's Procurement Division, Building Inspection Division, the Clerk of Courts, the Property Appraiser and the Duval County Tax Collector," according to the release.
Of the city websites the FAF surveyed, Jacksonville's got a score of 80 out of a possible 100, scoring higher than all of the other cities on the list. By comparison with other First Coast city websites, the City of St. Augustine's website got a 48, Palatka got a 45 and Lake City got a 40.
