A mother says her teenage son is in a medically induced coma Tuesday evening after he fell off of a golf cart in Northwest St. Johns County.
The incident happened on Woodcross Drive, the sheriff's office said. Six juveniles were reportedly riding in a golf cart while shooting off fireworks when of them fell out of the cart and hit his head.
Witnesses on scene told First Coast News the victim is 14-year-old Luke Tabor.
Friends of Tabor said he suffered a seizure after hitting his head.
Jacob Akel, who was also riding on the golf cart said Tabor's Mother wanted to share one message to the community.
"The parent just wanted me to say one thing," Jacob said. "Just pray for her son, Luke."
Wolfson Children's Hospital says Tabor arrived as a trauma patient in critical condition.
Back in May, the sheriff's office warned that golf carts can only be operated by persons 14 years old or older. Juveniles that are 16 years of age or younger without a driver's license cannot drive a golf cart from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., according to the sheriff's office.
Juveniles who are 17 years old without a driver's license cannot operate a golf cart from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
As of 11:30 Tuesday night, a family friend said Tabor remains in an induced coma. He is expected to pull through, however.
