The City of Jacksonville has selected a demolition company from Central Florida to demolish the Jacksonville Landing, according to a meeting agenda from the City of Jacksonville.
D.H. Griffin Wrecking Co. is expected to demolish the Landing in a project that could cost $1,074,002, the agenda says.
The decision still pends final approval, expected to be made at Thursday's General Government Awards Committee Meeting at 1 p.m.
The announcement comes just days after Hooters at the Jacksonville Landing closed its doors after 32 years in business.
City Council also authorized $1.5 million to handle terminating sub-leases for businesses at the Landing, plus $1.5 million for demolishing the mall and getting the site ready for redevelopment.
The City of Jacksonville released the following statement about the impending demolition:
The contractor and our experts at public works will sit and map out the timeline and process based on the scope of the proposal they were awarded. Compass vacates on October 28th. Our best projection at this point is that it will be demolished by the end of the year.
