WATCH: Body cam footage shows moments deputies rescue two women from sinking car in St. Augustine

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office released the footage Wednesday, four days after their deputies rescued the two 18-year-old women from the car.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Newly released body camera footage shows the moments St. Johns County Sheriff's deputies rescued two women from a sinking car in St. Augustine over Thanksgiving weekend.

The SJSO said they received a 911 call around 5 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, from two 18-year-old women saying they were trapped in the sinking car along Holmes Boulevard in St. Augustine after it veered off the road.

The footage, released Wednesday morning on X from the SJSO, shows an SUV halfway submerged in water. Deputy Jayde Glines is seen entering the water and assisting the women as they swam to the shore. the car then sank around 20 feet to the bottom, SJSO said on X.

SJSO said both women were taken to UF Health St. Johns for evaluation as a precaution, and the car was eventually recovered from the water. Exhaustion is suspected to be a contributing cause to the crash, according to the SJSO.
