JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office released the security and body camera footage showing one of its officers shooting an armed man in a gas station on the westside July 16.
Brenton Paquin, 37, was wanted for crimes in another Florida county and is a person of interest in a Vermont murder.
On July 16, a JSO officer was alerted that a truck matching the description of a vehicle used in a Lake County robbery was in the Argyle Forest area.
The officer located the truck in a gas station parking lot in the area just after 6 p.m. The officer also spotted a rifle in the front passenger seat, JSO said.
Moments later, Paquin was spotted by the officer walking to the truck, leading a dog on a leash beside him.
The officer can be seen and heard on video instructing Paquin to sit on the curb beside the truck. JSO said Paquin disobeyed the instruction and video shows him reaching for the truck door. The officer grabbed Paquin's arm and a struggle ensued until Paquin reached into the driver's side cab and grabbed a gun.
Paquin can be seen advancing on the officer, pointing the weapon at him, which is when the officer drew his gun and shot him.
Paquin fell to the ground and first responders administered first aid until emergency personnel arrived.
According to JSO, Paquin is a person of interest in a Vermont murder. He also faces armed robbery charges by the Clermont Police Department and Lake County Sheriff's Office.
Located inside Paquin's truck were six rifles and two shotguns, along with a variety of narcotics, JSO said.
Paquin was still in the hospital as of Tuesday. Paquin's dog was not injured in the incident, JSO said.
