JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Big Lots is expected to close hundreds of stores across the country, including 27 in Florida, according to a late July filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
On July 31, the company requested they increase their number of potential closings from 150 to 315 to "aggressively address underperforming stores," the document states.
Of the stores closing nationwide, 27 are slated to close in Florida, according to the department store's website. A 20% off sale is advertised for each store expected to close its doors.
The following Big Lots locations are slated to close across Florida.
Earlier in June, Big Lots CEO Bruce Thorn said the company had missed its sales goals in Q1 due to "pullback in consumer spending by our core customers, particularly in high ticket discretionary items."
"The current financial performance does not yet reflect the stronger business model that we've created through our five key actions, but we expect the fruits of those efforts to become more apparent in the back half of the year," Thorn said.
