ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. — Land and longevity were the keys to success in June for Duval County’s highest-priced home sales.
Just two of the area’s most expensive single-family homes were built after the year 2000. The rest spanned a major chunk of the 20th century, with years of completion ranging from 1926 to 1976 — exactly five decades.
The lot sizes varied from just under ¼-acre (for the newest home on the list, built just last year) to 1.31 acres for a spacious French Country-style estate built in the late 1970s on the Intracoastal Waterway.

Leading the list was a classic cedar-shake oceanfront home in Atlantic Beach. Built in 1935, it occupies a .46-acre lot, rare even for that era, when development was ramping up along the Florida coast. Its June 12 sale for $8,125,000 broke a record for home prices in Duval County. The previous record was set just over a year ago, when another classic Atlantic Beach cottage sold for $8 million.
