Jacksonville hospital reopens after 'suspicious material' was found in parking lot

The hospital is back operating on its normal schedule.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Baptist & Wolfson Oakleaf Emergency Room temporarily closed Tuesday as law enforcement investigated "suspicious material" found in the hospital's parking lot.

Baptist Health said in a statement provided to First Coast News that the material was found inside a vehicle in the parking lot, and "out of an abundance of caution" the emergency room was shut down.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was notified around 9:30 a.m. and evacuated the building while their hazardous device unit inspected the vehicle and the materials inside.

Officers discovered the suspicious items to be some sort of "plumbing material."

The area was declared safe and the hospital was reopened.

No citations or arrests were made.
