JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — JEA urged customers to follow "mandatory watering restrictions" on Tuesday as high temperatures and little rainfall have prompted high demand for its reclaimed water supply, a release states.
"We currently are producing and delivering more reclaimed water than ever before, but this surge in demand is putting a strain on our system and as a result reducing our system pressures," JEA Spokesperson Karen McAllister wrote in the release.
JEA said it "strongly urges" all portable (drinking) and reclaimed water customers to follow the mandatory watering restrictions set by the St. Johns River Water Management District. Watering days vary by address and the time of year.
The current watering restrictions schedule is from March to November during daylight saving time. The restrictions also state that customers can only water when needed and not between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., JEA said.
- Residential properties with odd-numbered or no addresses may water on Wednesdays and Saturdays
- Residential properties with even-numbered addresses may water on Thursdays and Sundays
- Nonresidential properties may water on Tuesdays and Fridays
JEA recommends watering from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. for no longer than one hour per zone.
"JEA recognizes that all water—both potable and reclaimed—is a valuable resource that needs to be conserved," the release states. "JEA is committed to ongoing customer education about the value of water as a limited and important resource."
