Ahmaud Arbery's killers - Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael and William "Roddie" Bryan, who were sentenced to life in prison in 2022 for the murder of Arbery in February 2020, are in Glynn County court Thursday morning.

The three men are asking for a new trial in the murder case, as they were found guilty by a jury on most of the 29 charges they faced the day before Thanksgiving in 2021.

On Feb. 23, 2020, Arbery, 25, was jogging in the Satilla Shores neighborhood in Brunswick, when he was chased, shot and killed.

Travis McMichael, who shot Arbery, was convicted of all charges. His father Greg McMichael was found not guilty of malice murder, but was found guilty of four counts of felony murder and four additional felony counts.

Bryan was found not guilty of malice murder, one felony murder count and one felony aggravated assault count, but was convicted of three felony murder counts and three additional felony counts. Each suspect was charged with the same nine counts.

On Jan. 7, 2022, Bryan was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole, while the McMichaels were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus 20 years.

William 'Roddie' Bryan, Gregory McMichael and Travis McMichael have been sentenced to life in prison for killing Ahmaud Arbery.

Life with parole requires the convicted person to serve at least 30 years before parole can be considered.

At the start of the sentencing hearing, Bryan's attorney Kevin Gough filed several motions, including a constitutional challenge under the 8th amendment to a mandatory life sentence for his client.

"...Because the evidence is clear, he neither killed nor attempted to kill anyone in this matter and believe that it’s cruel … unconstitutionally cruel to impose a mandatory life sentence," said Gough.

Before the killers' sentences were handed down, Arbery's family gave victim impact statements; watch Arbery's mother's, Arbery's father's and Arbery's sister's in the YouTube videos below.
