JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — After four days with no power in some buildings at the Bella Terraza apartment complex, residents received an update Saturday morning giving more insight on how much longer they'll be without power.
William Lucas lives in one of the apartment buildings without power. After spending the last three nights with family, he returned Saturday morning to his apartment for clothes.
“Don’t have power, don’t have nothing, we need help, we need something," Lucas said.
He said inside the air is thick and hot.
“I lost everything in my refrigerator, all night it's hot," Lucas said.
Residents at the Bella Terraza apartments off Monument Road say the power went out Wednesday night.
Lucas said his neighbor spent the night sleeping in his car just to use the air conditioning. Another resident, Martin Hastings who spoke over the phone, says he is staying in a hotel.
First Coast News reached out to apartment management but could not get a hold of them on Saturday. However, residents did share a message from apartment management that states the area that needs repaired should be installed by Tuesday.
Lucas said he lucky to have family near by, but for many here this mean four more nights dealing with sweltering temperatures.
“I’m OK but there’s families here who have kids and babies, so somebody needs to do something," Lucas said.
JEA officials have said once the apartment complex completes the electrical repairs, they can come in and restore power.
