60-year-old bicyclist killed in Northside crash, Jacksonville's 75th traffic fatality of 2024

The crash occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of Edgewood Avenue near Cassat Avenue, police said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —  A traffic crash between a vehicle and a bicycle on the Northside has left a 60-year-old bicyclist dead, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of Edgewood Avenue, police said.

A 4-door Hyundai was heading westbound on Cassat Avenue when it struck a bicyclist, a Black man in his 60s who was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The bicycle did not appear to have any functional lights and the victim was wearing dark clothing. The driver of the Hyundai is cooperating with detectives, JSO said in a release.

It's the 75th traffic fatality in Duval County in 2024 and the fourth involving a bicyclist. Edgewood Avenue was closed until about 7 a.m., police said.
