4 Putnam County students in the hospital after eating THC gummies

PCSO said it appeared that one of the students got into a family member's THC gummies. The investigation is still active.

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — The Putnam County Sheriff's Office and rescue units responded to Jenkins Elementary School after receiving reports of four second-grade students presenting symptoms of being under the influence on Friday.

The four children were taken to the hospital and their guardians were notified.

PCSO said it appeared that one of the students got into a family member's THC gummies. The investigation is still active.

"Parents and guardians we want to remind you of your obligation to protect your child from exposure of gummies and other medications. We know some people use these products to curb anxiety, pain and other conditions. However, these items are not approved for children," PCSO said.

"Many of these edibles, however, look like candy. Leaving these items in an area where a child can have access can be considered child neglect. Last year we had several instances of elementary school children getting possession of these types of items and getting sick."

PCSO advises anyone with these types of products in their home to put them away and keep them away from children.
