JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced Friday that 37 juveniles have been arrested since August 1 for making school-related threats.
According to JSO, four students have been arrested in the past week and a half.
Schools along the First Coast and across Florida saw a significant uptick in threats after the Sept. 4 Apalachee High School mass shooting in Georgia. The threats became so common that Florida sheriffs began publishing mugshots of the students and "perp walk" videos following the arrests in hopes to deter further threats.
JSO has decided not to publish the mugshots or names of the students, whose ages range from 10 to 17, but said, "rest assured they are facing serious consequences."
The sheriff's office said it arrested 23 individuals while the Duval County School Police arrested 15. The one additional arrestee was not a juvenile.
We want to make this clear: if you make a threat, you will be arrested and charged," JSO said. "Jail is not fun. Parents, please talk to your kids tonight."
