25 people displaced in Moncrief area apartment fire, officials say

No one was injured, the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department captain said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Multiple Cypress Landing apartments were effected by a fire in the Moncrief area Saturday.

There were no injuries, according to the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department, but 25 people are displaced.

"Smoke, just full of smoke everywhere," Resident Jasia Thomas said.

Cypress Landing Resident Jasia Thomas says she got a call from her babysitter while she was at work, telling her the building was on fire. Thomas says her daughter heard a loud noise just minutes before the fire spread.

"She just said that she was putting up a room and she heard a big boom and she said when she heard the boom, she just saw smoke," Thomas said.

Thomas says her apartment suffered only smoke damage but the damage on a neighboring building was more intense. Residents are not able to go back to their apartments Saturday night.

The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents. We spoke to staff at the apartment complex who couldn't give us any information. The fire marshal is investigating the cause.
