2 arrested after Jacksonville drive-by shooting left homeowner's dog dead, JSO says

Police said the homeowner's Great Dane was in the front yard at the time of the shooting.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two people, an 18-year-old man and 21-year-old man, were arrested after a drive-by shooting left a homeowner's dog dead, Jacksonville police reports state.

Officers responded to a home in north Jacksonville Thursday, Aug. 15 when the residents woke up and found bullet holes in their home and their dog dead with gunshot wounds.

Two of the five people in the home the morning of the shooting told police they were awoken by the sounds of the gunfire around 6 a.m. One of victims told police that when they looked out the window, they saw an older model red Chevy Impala driving away. They both went back to sleep, "thinking it was an unrelated shooting," the report reads.

When they woke up later that morning, they noticed several bullet holes near the front of the house and that the Great Dane belonging to the homeowner had been shot and killed. One of the victims told police they think they know who the shooter was, noting that he recently had a dispute over a game with 18-year-old Logan Kurlin, where the victim said he was "roasting" Kurlin. The victim told police Kurlin then blocked him on Instagram, but had not threatened to harm him.

The red Impala was located five days later by a JSO unit. The driver was identified as Kurlin. The passenger was later identified as 21-year-old Nathan Kizer.

Police said the Great Dane was in the front yard at the time of the shooting. It was struck by gunfire and died.

Both Kizer and Kurlin were arrested following the incident.
