NASSAU COUNTY, FLORIDA, Fla. — Family members are remembering a young girl that was killed in a wrong-way crash on County Road 121 in Nassau County Sunday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP said around 9:50 p.m. a pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old boy was traveling southbound on CR-121 at Batten Road, while a 17-year-old girl was driving an SUV, traveling northbound on CR-121 at Batten Road.
The boy "failed to keep a single lane and entered into the northbound lane, directly into the path" of the girl's SUV, the FHP crash report states. The left portion of both their vehicles collided into each other, according to FHP.
The boy was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, while the girl was pronounced dead on scene by Nassau County EMS.
Family members identified Sydney Weiscopf, 17, as the victim killed in the crash. Her mother told First Coast News she was about to graduate a year early. She attended West Nassau High School until January and then enrolled in virtual school. Her mother said Sydney was a go getter who was not afraid to speak her mind. She said her daughter was a true friend and would have forever left her mark on the world.
