JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was killed after police say he tried to cross underneath a train Wednesday morning on St. Clair Street, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The accident happened in the 2800 block of St. Clair Street around 11 a.m.
Police said a man in his 60s was hit while attempting to climb underneath the train. The man had his bicycle with him and was trying to cross under while the train was stopped. The train then started moving as he was crossing and injured the victim, JSO said.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he died. Police said his injuries included amputated legs due to the accident.
Just before the incident, JSO said the man was in a nearby trainyard where officers told him to leave because he was not allowed there. The train involved Norfolk Southern, according to police.
Witnesses saw the man get injured by the train and called 911.
JSO wants to remind individuals that when you see a train stopped at a crosswalk don't try to cross, but instead wait until the train moves and then cross.
