JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man was shot in the leg Sunday morning after he chased car thieve suspects.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the Shellbay subdivision around 3:40 a.m. for a stolen vehicle. Officers were soon dispatched to a neighborhood down the road at the 6900 block of Rivercrest Drive in reference to a car burglary in progress.
Police say the homeowner saw the suspects get into his car and attempt to take things. The homeowner then saw several people run away.
Officials say the homeowner got into his car and chased after the suspects. The daughter of the homeowner tells First Coast News her dad got out of the car to confront one of the suspects and had a wrench in his hand. That's when the suspect fired multiple shots, hitting the homeowner in the leg.
The victim was transported to UF Health for non-life threatening injuries.
JSO is on the lookout for the stolen, black Ford F-150 with a North Carolina tag DFA2898. They're also looking for a small white Toyota that may be involved.
