ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Multiple neighbors in a St. Johns County neighborhood have reached out to the Ask Anthony team about cracked and unpaved roads in their neighborhood.
They say they can't get clear answers from county leaders and the developers about the problem.
"I'm not a person that does road work, but it doesn't seem normal to me," Lynn March said.
Rivertown homeowner Lynn March says on a hot day you can see water bubbling up through the pavement. It appears to be the cause of the splits in the road in the Northlake section of Rivertown, a St. Johns County community that is fairly new.
"It's pretty much the entire Northlake area," March added.
March says he has personally stopped by the St. Johns County Government Offices to ask questions. He's also spoken with a representative for Mattamy homes, the main builder in Rivertown, but he can't get a response on when these roads are going to be repaired.
"You just wonder what's underneath there and could our house be impacted as well," March explained.
A letter was sent to Rivertown homeowners this week that a paving project is scheduled to begin in March and that the developer, engineers, and county had to work through some issues to get the best solution.
But, what about the cracks in the road?
The Ask Anthony team received a statement from a St. Johns County representative:
"The County is aware of this issue. We paused the next stage of paving as there was evidence of pavement drainage issues. Specifically, there was subsurface drainage issues that deals with water in the pavement courses and in the surrounding soil. Such water may enter through an adjacent porous material, or from the ground below. This affects the sustainability of the road. Therefore, more construction and more impacts on neighbors to rip up the previous pavement to address the issue. Taking tests and evaluating samples has taken some time, in order to make sure we have plan to proceed for the long-term quality of the roads for those residents. We understand their frustration and are compassionately proceeding as quickly as we can to assist the developer."
The Ask Anthony team called and emailed Mattamy Homes about the cracks in the road, but did not receive a response by the time this story was published.
