GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — For those who live in Clay County, you can get some expensive projects checked off your to-do list for free.
From a brand new roof to upgrading your HVAC system, a new home rehab grant allows qualifying Clay County residents to get these essential parts of your homes fixed free of charge.
The grant, Community Development Block Grant for home rehabilitation, is available every year for qualifying low to moderate income families who need assistance with maintaining a safe home.
The grant application opened Thursday, waiting for residents to apply from now till the end of October.
Meghan Covey, the Grants Director of Clay County says they have $350,000 to work with and plans to use all of it on qualifying homeowners in Clay County.
“$350,000 covers about 10 awards. Of course, it all depends on what the needs are. Sometimes we can cover more applicants than that just based on needs. So that's why it's a great idea to apply, no matter what your needs are," she said.
Covey adds they've helped a handful of residents every year make their home safer through this funding.
Seeing many homeowners in dire need of infrastructure upgrades, especially assisting people on a fixed income that don't have room in their budget to make that big of an investment.
“We want to build that community resilience and that means making sure that our residents are in safe affordable housing. So we want to keep people in their homes and make sure that their homes are adapted to, to where they are in life,” Covey explained.
To get started on the application that's now open, you can apply online.
The county is hosting five in person application workshops, with a schedule as follows:
