JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — (The video above is from a national story and is not related to this report)
The Florida Department of Education released its annual collection of school and district grades late Monday afternoon — with a caveat.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic's impacts on the school year and potential learning retention, schools and districts could opt-in or opt-out of getting a letter grade for the 2020-21 academic year only. In the 2019-20 school year, grades were not released at all.
Duval County Public Schools is among the dozens of districts that opted out this year. And out of the district's nearly 200 schools, only about 30 opted-into receiving an individual letter grade this year.
Performance data for all schools and the district was still reported, the only difference is whether a letter grade was awarded or not.
