SCHOOL CLOSURES: Here's a list of schools closed on the First Coast ahead of Milton

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As Hurricane Milton moves closer to Florida, with expected landfall to come sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, school districts on the First Coast could cancel classes.

No announcements have been made as of Monday morning, but First Coast News is On Your Side with a list keeping track of school closures in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, county-by-county.

Below is a look at the list of school closures; this story will be updated as more information is released.

Northeast Florida

All Catholic schools and the Diocese of St. Augustine will close for the remainder of the week. For a full list of the school closures across First Coast counties, visit www.dosaeducation.org

Duval County

Duval County Public Schools will be closed from Wednesday, Oct. 9, through Friday, Oct. 11.  

All school activities, including athletics and after-school programs, are canceled for those days.

  • San Jose Catholic Church and School: Closed Wednesday through Friday.
  • The Bolles School: Closed Wednesday and Thursday. School will remain open Wednesday, but all campuses will close at 3:10 p.m. Rehearsals, extended day, practices, games, meetings and any other school activities are canceled for Wednesday and Thursday. The Bolles football game was rescheduled to Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The volleyball game will continue as scheduled Tuesday night at Bolles.
  • Episcopal School of Jacksonville will be closed Wednesday through Friday.
  1. FSCJ: All classes and activities at all campuses are canceled Wednesday through Friday. This includes online classes and administrative offices. All college events and activities are also canceled.
  2. UNF: All classes and events are canceled Wednesday and Thursday.
  3. EWU: All classes, including online sessions, are canceled effective 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
  4. JU: All classes and events are canceled on Wednesday and Thursday. Classes will be virtual on Friday.
  5. Keiser University will close 5 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday.

Make-Up Days

Students and families should plan to make up two of the missed days on Feb. 14 and May 30. Those days are currently listed as weather days on the school calendar. The school calendar has additional time built-in to absorb the third day of closure.

Clay County

The Clay County School District will be open for school Tuesday but will close Wednesday and Thursday. In a 2 p.m. update Thursday, the school district said schools and district offices will reopen Friday.

St. Johns Country Day School in Orange Park will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Columbia County

Columbia County Schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. Normal operations will resume Friday, and Monday will now serve as a weather makeup day for all students and staff.

Bradford County

All Bradford County Schools will be closed Wednesday through Friday. A teacher planning day will be moved to Friday, and students and staff will report to school Monday morning.

Nassau County

All schools in the Nassau County School District will be closed on Wednesday, October 9, and Thursday, October 10 due to Hurricane Milton.

St. Johns County

All SJCSD schools and offices will be closed Wednesday, October 9, Thursday, October 10 and Friday, October 11.  All extracurricular activities, athletic events, and extended day programs are also canceled or closed Wednesday-Friday.

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind will be closed from Tuesday through Thursday.

St. Johns River State College will close all campuses: Orange Park, Palatka and St. Augustine from Wednesday through Friday. All classes, events and activities have been canceled. The college is closed Monday for a federal holiday and is set to reopen Tuesday.

The Diocese of St. Augustine will close schools and early learning centers Wednesday through Friday.

Baker County

Baker County Schools will be closed Thursday. All after school events will be canceled Thursday. School will resume Friday.

Flagler County 

Flagler Schools is closing all schools and offices Wednesday through Friday. Outdoor activities will be canceled Tuesday afternoon, and all activities will be canceled on Wednesday and Thursday as well, according to the school district.

Students will return back to school on Monday.

Putnam County

All Putnam County schools and offices will be closed Wednesday through Friday.

Furthermore, all after-school programs/athletic activities are canceled beginning Tuesday through Friday.

Students will return to school Wednesday, Oct. 16 since Monday and Tuesday are "planning and staff development days," Putnam County School District said on Facebook.

Union County

Union County Schools after school activities will be canceled Wednesday. Schools will be closed Thursday, with plans to reopen Friday, weather permitting.

Little Rainbow Learning Center is closed Thursday.

Southeast Georgia

Camden County

Camden County Schools will switch to distance learning Wednesday through Friday. School buildings will be closed. Only essential staff will report to work Wednesday.

Glynn County 

Glynn County Schools will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 10. All after-school and extracurricular activities scheduled for that day are canceled. Schools will remain closed to students on Friday, Oct. 11 (Teacher Work Day) and Monday, Oct. 14 for Fall Break. Classes are set to resume on Tuesday, October 15. 

Ware County

Schools will already be closed to students through Oct. 18 following impacts from Hurricane Helene.
