JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Before you know it, sales will start to appear almost every day, booking salon and haircut appointments will become harder, and health forms may need to be updated — all signs of back-to-school time.
Keeping that in mind, parents may choose to enroll their child at another school than where they attended the previous year. However, that decision could change after reviewing the Florida Department of Education's 2024 school grades under a new grading scale, which released Wednesday.
The new grading scale was made so that elementary schools are graded using the scale that was previously used from 2014-15 to 2021-22, while all other school types are graded using the new scale. Additionally, the new grading scale continues to include annual learning gains components in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
"In 2024, nearly 1,300 schools [statewide] earned an “A” grade, a 6-percentage point increase over 2023," a release from the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) states. "Less than 4% of all schools [statewide] (113 schools) earned a “D” or “F” in 2024 compared to 6% of schools (211 schools) in 2023."
