TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced the creation of a 9/11 curriculum for Florida schools on the 23rd anniversary of the terrorist attacks Wednesday.
DeSantis and others delivered 9/11 remembrance remarks at the Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor Wednesday morning.
Included in DeSantis' speech was an announcement of a new 9/11 curriculum for Florida schools to ensure "people remember what happened that day."
"Most people in our country under the age of 30 were either not born yet or too young to have a firm memory of what happened," DeSantis said. "Doing things every year on 9/11 is necessary, but it's not sufficient."
DeSantis said he worked with Florida legislature to develop the curriculum, which includes instruction on the causes of 9/11, the destruction of 9/11 and the heroic response that many made that day.
DeSantis said the curriculum will also serve as a wakeup call for students to learn that "evil is out there," as well as inspiration given how the first responders rose to the occasion.
