JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office (SJSO) on Monday released footage of Wednesday's I-95 police chase, which started in St. Johns County, ended in Jacksonville and injured two Florida Highway Patrol troopers.
Alexandria Mason, 42, is charged with aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, armed possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI with property damage, according to a post made by SJSO.
Police say Mason will also be charged with DUI, refusal to comply with a lawful order, resisting a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and aggravated fleeing and eluding. FHP says she's facing charges from a felony warrant out of Citrus County as well.
On Wednesday, FHP said Mason, who is from Weeki Wachee, fled and was pursued by troopers after crossing the Duval County line.
A combination of bodycam and dashcam footage by the sheriff's office, shows Mason being stopped in the parking lot of a McDonald's in St. Johns County.
When approached by a deputy, Mason asks them, "What's going on?"
The deputy then responded to her saying, "So, it seems that you got a warrant out of Citrus County."
"You're not allowed to stop me," Mason said.
"I am because you matched the description of a wanted fugitive, okay?" the deputy said.
"Okay, well, I'm not wanted," Mason told the deputy before driving off, ignoring the deputy's multiple commands to not do so.
The pursuit started on I-95 at State Road 16, according to police. During the chase, a deputy can be heard in the video saying that an FHP trooper has reached "90 mph."
The chase then ended on I-95 near Atlantic Boulevard, as FHP was able to successfully perform a PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver to stop Mason. The crash which happened at 7:48 p.m., according to FHP, shut down two lanes on I-95 North for two hours.
The vehicle Mason was driving, hit a Hyundai Santa Fe during the chase, according to FHP. Troopers say no one in that car was injured and two other vehicles were damaged, which were FHP's.
The sheriff's office says a trooper involved "sustained significant hand injuries," while FHP says in its crash report that Mason suffered "minor" injuries in the incident; they both were taken to UF Health of Jacksonville.
