Update: Water restored to dozens after shooting causes woman to crash vehicle into Westside apartment

The woman driving the vehicle that crashed into the apartment was hospitalized in non-life-threatening condition, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Update: Hours after a shooting caused a car to crash into a Westside apartment complex cutting off water to dozens of residents Sunday, JEA officials say water is back and running.

A woman driving the vehicle that crashed into the apartment is in the hospital in non-life-threatening condition, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police say around 3:30 a.m. a man and a woman were in a car leaving the apartment complex when they were shot multiple times.

When the woman who was driving the car was hit, she lost control of the car and crashed into the building causing a hole in the wall and rupturing water lines at the complex. The man in the car was not injured, according to police.

Residents could see a damaged car and the gaping hole left in the side of Virginian Arms Apartments, located at 2501 Jammes Road.

JEA previously disconnected water in the area, but as of 3 p.m. Sunday, officials said water is back and running. Officials added that water pressure could be low for some residents in the area.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation and police are still determining whether a possible suspect fled on foot or in a vehicle.
