JSO: Woman found shot to death outside home on Jacksonville's Westside

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says they were alerted by the shooting by someone who flagged down patrol officers.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — 5:15 p.m. Update: The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has identified the victim as 53-year-old Yolanda Sturdivant. Police said 57-year-old Bobby Simpson was arrested Friday on murder charges, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and evidence tampering.

A woman was found shot to death outside of a home on Jacksonville's Westside Thursday night ands a suspect is now in custody, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO's Sergeant Henson says at 11:35 p.m., while an officer was on patrol, they were flagged down by an unknown person regarding the shooting.

Police say the shooting happened in the 2300 block of Bradford Street.

The woman was pronounced dead when officers arrived, according to Henson, as she suffered "what appeared to be at least one gunshot wound," he said.

JSO says two people at the home were detained and that crime scene and homicide detectives are conducting an ongoing investigation.

"At this time, we do not know the circumstances of the incident or the relationships of those involved," Henson said. "Because of this, the classification of the incident is pending. We will continue to investigate and coordinate our efforts with our partners at the Medical Examiner's Office and the State Attorney’s Office."
