JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of one of its officers Monday, charging him with domestic battery.
Undersheriff Shawn Coarsey said a neighbor of now-former Officer John Luna, called police late Sunday night after hearing screams for help coming from Luna's home.
When officers arrived, they found another individual in the home with "visible and fresh injuries."
After speaking with Luna and the victim, Coarsey said officers learned there was an argument inside the home that became physical.
Luna was arrested and charged with one count of domestic battery, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Luna had been employed by JSO since February 2022, the undersheriff said. He was fired Monday.
Coarsey noted this officer arrest is the seventh arrest of a JSO employee in 2024.
"No one is above the law," he concluded.
