JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A pedestrian was killed in a crash on Jacksonville's Westside Friday morning, according to the sheriff's office.
JSO Lieutenant Nassim Mana says the crash happened at 5:34 a.m. in the 8800 block of Collins Road.
In the crash, the pedestrian who is a man, was walking eastbound in the road, according to Mana. At the same time, police say a white Ford F-Series pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Collins Road, as the driver "did not see him" and struck him in the outside lane.
Mana says the driver stopped right away and called 911. JFRD then responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead.
Mana told First Coast News JSO does not believe speed or impairment was a factor in the crash, however, the sheriff's office traffic homicide detectives and the Medical Examiner's Office is actively investigating the incident. The driver is cooperating with police in the investigation and the pedestrian has not yet been identified, according to Mana.
This crash marks the 77th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, with 19 pedestrians killed.
Collins Road is currently closed in both directions from Shindler Drive to Old Middleburg Road, Mana said.
