Triple homicide committed by 4 teenagers, Jacksonville police say

"This is not a random act of violence," said JSO Director of Investigations Mike Bruno.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Four teenagers were behind a triple homicide in Jacksonville's Moncrief area Monday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO Director of Investigations Mike Bruno announced the arrest of four suspects Wednesday afternoon, including a 14-year-old girl police say was driving the getaway car.

"Let me repeat that," Bruno said. "The driver of the getaway vehicle in a murder was a 14-year-old female."

JSO said its gang unit was in the Moncrief area on deployment Monday night when police heard gunshots in the area of Calloway Cove Apartments. Bruno said officers attempted to do a traffic stop on a dark-colored vehicle fleeing from the scene, but the car continued to flee.

Police chased the vehicle for approximately 3 to 4 miles before they were able to stop the vehicle. Four teens were arrested, including the 14-year-old girl as well as two 17-year-old boys and 18-year-old Keon Lester, according to police.

"They all started making statements, 'We didn't shoot those people, we didn't shoot those people,'" Bruno said.

Officers returned to the scene where they heard the gunshots and a witness helped them locate the crime scene, where police found the three victims. First Coast News has learned one of the victims is 30-year-old Sara Cancel Urriola, who briefly worked as a clerk at the State Attorney's Office in 2019.

The other two victims' names are not known.

Police found three firearms in the vehicle, along with more than 100 OxyContin pills and a large bowl of white powder.

"This is not a random act of violence," Bruno said. "You're not 14 or 17 and start out your criminal career with robbery and murder. You typical start off with lower-level crimes. You can tell they've had brushes with the law. It's shocking and appalling when you have kids -- 14, 17, 18 years old -- out committing crimes in our city."

The four teens have all been charged with second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit robbery.

"Obviously this is a heinous crime," Bruno said. "That is an adult crime."

Sara Urriola's family reached out to First Coast News to give the following statement:

"We have lost a loving, caring, wife, mother, daughter, niece, cousin, sister, aunt, best-friend and friend today. Sara loved her friends and family very much and the friends that knew her know she was all about the well-being of her family. She loved to dance, dress up, and enjoyed all family events. She loved music and enjoyed being with her family and friends more than anything, being the center of the entire family. She was the light, the glue, and the spirit of the family. Dancing was Sara’s first passion and love. She started her career in Criminal Justice, earned her AA Degree at FSCJ, and Bachelor’s at UNF in Jacksonville, and she was currently working towards earning her Master’s at FSU. Sara loved to travel with her family and friends relishing her time with her close knit family. But the ultimate love of her life was her son Kevin Alexander.

"Born in Panama, Panama she came to the United States to begin her life with family and friends here in Jacksonville and her future was incredibly bright and forthcoming. Everyone that came in contact with her immediately fell in love with her. All will continue to cherish and carry on her legacy."
