JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - An unloaded firearm was found on the campus of J.E.B. Middle School last Friday, according to a Duval County Public Schools spokesperson.
DCPS said the principal, Sadie Milliner-Smith, notified parents on Friday that school officials received a student tip about another student bringing the weapon to campus. Immediately after, school administrators and DCPS Police investigated the claim and performed a search.
They found an unloaded firearm in the student's possession and confiscated it. The student was taken into custody and arrested. The student now faces criminal charges and may be expelled.
No students or staff were harmed.
"While we are very pleased with the responsiveness and cooperation of our students, staff and security teams, we request your parental support," Milliner-Smith said. "Please talk with your children about the serious consequences of bringing a firearm or weapon on campus."
